Hon. Randeep Sarai Launches Canada’s National Food Security Strategy at Kingdom Acts Foundation’s Bridgeview Campus

Surrey, British Columbia – Kingdom Acts Foundation (KAF) was honoured to host the Honourable Randeep Sarai, Minister of State for International Development and Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre, as he officially announced Canada’s National Food Security Strategy at the Kingdom Acts Foundation Community Resources Centre (Bridgeview Campus).

The announcement brought together community leaders, volunteers, partners, and residents to celebrate an important milestone in Canada’s efforts to build a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable food system.

A Historic Moment for Food Security

The launch of the National Food Security Strategy represents a significant commitment by the Government of Canada to address food insecurity through coordinated action, stronger partnerships, and long-term investments in healthy, accessible, and culturally appropriate food systems.

Hosting this national announcement at Kingdom Acts Foundation is a recognition of the organization’s leadership and growing impact in addressing food insecurity in Surrey and across British Columbia.

Speaking at the event, Minister Sarai emphasized the importance of collaboration between governments, community organizations, food producers, businesses, and volunteers in ensuring that every Canadian has access to nutritious food while building stronger local food systems.

A Recognition of Community Leadership

For Kingdom Acts Foundation, the event was more than a government announcement—it was an affirmation of years of community-driven work.

Through its Food Bank and Food Security Program, KAF has become one of the fastest-growing community food security organizations in British Columbia, serving thousands of individuals and families every month through a comprehensive model that extends beyond emergency food assistance.

Today, KAF’s approach integrates:

  • Food rescue and redistribution
  • Culturally appropriate food access
  • Nutrition education
  • New immigrant settlement support
  • Mental health and family wellness services
  • Youth mentorship
  • Seniors programs
  • Employment and capacity-building initiatives

This holistic approach recognizes that food insecurity is often connected to broader social and economic challenges that require integrated community solutions.

Food Security is More Than Food

During the event, Kingdom Acts Foundation reaffirmed its belief that food security is about far more than providing groceries.

Food security is about restoring dignity.

It is about improving health outcomes.

It is about creating opportunities for children to learn, seniors to age with dignity, newcomers to integrate successfully, and families to build stable futures.

Every food hamper distributed represents hope, compassion, and a community choosing to care for one another.

Building Stronger Partnerships

The National Food Security Strategy reinforces the importance of partnerships across all sectors.

Kingdom Acts Foundation is grateful to work alongside governments, food industry partners, charitable organizations, donors, volunteers, educational institutions, and community agencies who continue to make this work possible.

These collaborations enable KAF to recover quality food that would otherwise go to waste while ensuring it reaches families who need it most.

Looking Ahead

As Canada begins implementing its National Food Security Strategy, Kingdom Acts Foundation remains committed to expanding innovative, community-based solutions that improve food access while strengthening long-term resilience.

The Foundation believes that sustainable food security requires continued investment in local organizations that understand the unique needs of their communities and are positioned to deliver culturally responsive, people-centred services.

Together, governments, community organizations, businesses, and citizens can build a Canada where no one has to choose between paying rent and putting healthy food on the table.

Thank You

Kingdom Acts Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the Honourable Randeep Sarai, the Government of Canada, community partners, volunteers, donors, and everyone who attended this historic announcement.

Together, we are building healthier communities, reducing food insecurity, and creating lasting opportunities for individuals and families across British Columbia.
